Make voice quality measurable.

VoLTE, VoIP, cloud UC, smartphones: measure the voice quality and delay of any endpoint objectively, to POLQA (ITU-T P.863) / PESQ. LAN remote control and a text command interface bring test automation and system integration.

The problem

Still judging call quality by ear?

As call infrastructure diversifies and UC moves to the cloud, objective voice-quality evaluation matters more than ever.

Fragmented call paths

VoLTE, VoIP, cloud UC, WebRTC: quality and delay vary widely by device and service.

UC-migration quality drops

Moving from on-prem PBX to cloud UC brings degradation and delay, hard to isolate without objective data.

Standards compliance required

Carriers and device makers must prove conformance to ITU-T P.863 (POLQA), 3GPP and more.

Legacy gear can't scale

Serial-bound with no remote measurement, GUI-only: no automation or integration.

What is VoicePinger 2?

Objective POLQA measurement, now remote and automatable.

VoicePinger 2 (ToyCAP2) is a purpose-built solution that measures voice quality and delay objectively, to international standards. It connects to any endpoint via a 3.5 mm audio jack and is controlled remotely over LAN.

Objective

POLQA (ITU-T P.863) / PESQ compliant: quality in numbers, not impressions.

Remote

Put the sending and receiving ends in different sites and measure end-to-end over LAN.

Automatable

A text command interface lets other systems drive it: test automation and CI/CD.

From VP1 to VP2

Four decisive upgrades over the original.

Aspect VoicePinger 1 VoicePinger 2
Control Serial connection + a dedicated Windows app only LAN Ethernet + text commands: drivable from other systems and scripts, enabling test automation and CI/CD.
Remote Sending and receiving ends had to sit in the same place Remote control over LAN: end-to-end measurement across different sites.
Delay Pulses emitted by the VP unit only DTMF-tone method: closer to real calls, with far better accuracy and flexibility.
Playback / record The PC handled playback and recording (the unit only matched impedance) The ToyCAP2 unit plays and records directly, then transfers files to the PC: a simpler setup.
Key features

Everything you need to measure.

POLQA / PESQ measurement

Objective scoring for HD voice, VoLTE, VoHSPA and VoIP super-wideband.

DTMF delay & jitter

Real-time graphs of end-to-end delay and jitter, with CSV export.

LAN remote control

Place each end in a different site and measure end-to-end.

Command I/F & automation

A text-based Ethernet socket interface lets other systems and scripts drive it.

Browser-based operation

No dedicated app to install: operate measurements from a web browser.

Wav Comparator New

Compare two recordings by waveform and quantify the difference with two scores.

Remote, end-to-end

Measure two sites, exactly as they are.

Place a ToyCAP2 at each end and control both remotely from a single PC (web browser) over LAN. Measure voice quality and delay across real networks, site to site.

  • True end-to-end over the real network
  • Field measurement across domestic and overseas sites
  • Connect any endpoint via a 3.5 mm audio jack

Wav Comparator (illustrative)

Wav Comparator lines up two WAV files for visual comparison and turns a subjective difference in sound into two objective scores.

  • Degradation — scores the visual waveform difference
  • ToyVQ — scores listening ease
  • Also for conference calls and guidance/IVR audio, not just phone calls
Objective by design

Turn "sounds fine" into a standards-based score.

POLQA-based since its 2013 release; the 2023 second generation adds LAN remote control, a command interface, and Wav Comparator.

Track record

Objective measurement the press has relied on.

VoicePinger has measured voice quality against POLQA since its 2013 release. Its objective measurement has been featured in industry product news and in press comparisons of calling services.

2012 · Nikkei xTECH

The launch was covered as an "endpoint-agnostic voice-delay measurement solution."

2014 · Nikkei Trendy

A feature comparing 15 calling services drew on objective quality / R-value measurement.

2013 → · POLQA since 2013

POLQA-based from the start: objective evaluation aligned with international standards.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

POLQA vs. PESQ, which do you support?
Both. POLQA (ITU-T P.863) is the modern, wideband method for LTE/VoLTE and we support v3.0; PESQ (P.862) is also supported. Note that POLQA scoring is an option.
How does remote measurement work?
Place a ToyCAP2 at each end and control both from a single PC (web browser) over LAN, enabling end-to-end measurement across different sites.
Can I automate it or integrate with other systems?
Yes. A text-based Ethernet socket command interface lets external systems and scripts drive it, for test automation and CI/CD.
Which endpoints and codecs are supported?
Via a 3.5 mm audio jack you can connect smartphones, mobiles, fixed lines, IP phones and softphones. HD voice, VoLTE, VoHSPA and VoIP super-wideband are supported.
Can I just request measurement without buying hardware?
Yes. Our measurement service offers third-party evaluation with VoicePinger, before/after comparisons, cloud-UC acceptance testing and more, delivered with a report and analysis.
